On this page

Export actions in the screenshot pane and Capture History use the currently selected frames. Select one or more frames first.

Export images

Select Images, then choose:

  • PNG Export (Lossless) for interface detail and transparency;
  • JPG Export (Adjustable Quality) for smaller files, with quality from 1 through 100. The default is 85.

Website Capture filenames can include their source domain.

Choose lossless PNG or set the JPG compression quality before export.

Export ZIP

ZIP packages the selected original frames without combining them. Use it when another person needs the image set or when you want a single archive for storage.

Export a searchable PDF

The capture/session PDF combines selected frames in order and runs OCR so text can be searched in compatible PDF viewers.

Document Editor PDF export is different: it renders finished document pages with their framing, descriptions, and annotations. See export a Document.

Export MP4

Choose 5, 10, 15, 24, 30, or 60 frames per second and High, Medium, or Low quality. Lower frame rates are useful for reviewing distinct steps; higher rates create a smoother timelapse.

Shotomatic MP4 Export Settings with frame-rate choices from 5 to 60 FPS
MP4 export uses H.264 and offers slideshow, default, smooth, cinema, video, and high-frame-rate presets.

If the output name exists, Shotomatic adds a number instead of overwriting the earlier file.

Export all current frames from the File menu

The macOS File menu contains commands for exporting all frames in the current session as GIF, PDF, ZIP, or Images. These commands use all current frames, not the selection in Capture History. Use the screenshot-pane buttons when selection matters.

Export location and Auto Export

Exports are saved to the Export path in Settings > General. Open Export Folder opens it in Finder.

Auto Export (Save as you go) writes PNG or JPG files while Auto Capture or Website Capture is running. It does not apply to Action Capture, which stores its steps for the resulting Document.
