Merge PDF
Add two or more PDFs and set the order they go in. Rotate or remove single pages, then download one merged PDF. Your files stay in your browser.
How to merge PDF files
- Select Choose PDFs, or drop two or more PDF files on the box. Use Add PDFs to bring in more later. You can merge up to 20 files, 300 pages, and 150 MB in total, and each PDF can be up to 50 MB.
- Under File order, use the up and down arrows to set which PDF comes first. The X button removes a file and all of its pages.
- To change single pages, drag a thumbnail to a new spot, rotate it clockwise, or remove it. If you move a file afterward, its pages move together in the order you set.
- Select Download merged PDF. The file is named after the first PDF, such as report-merged.pdf.
What stays the same in a merged PDF
A PDF merge combines several documents into one file, so a contract and its appendix, scanned receipts, or a report and its screenshots can be sent, printed, or archived together.
This tool copies each page as it is instead of re-rendering it. Text stays selectable and searchable, and images and vector graphics keep their original quality. Fonts and images shared by pages of the same PDF are stored once, so the merged file is usually about the size of the originals combined. If it is still too large to email, see how PDF compression reduces file size.
Some parts of a PDF belong to the whole document rather than to a page. Bookmarks aren't carried over, and fillable form fields may stop working, so keep the original if you still need to fill it in. Password-protected or encrypted PDFs can't be opened here.
To reorder, rotate, or delete pages in a single PDF, or to insert screenshots into it, use the PDF page organizer. To turn PNG, JPG, or WebP images into a new PDF, use the image to PDF converter. The screenshot to PDF guide covers when to make one multi-page file and when to keep separate ones.
Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF merger free?
Yes. There's no signup and no watermark, and you can merge as many PDFs as you like.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Your browser opens the files and builds the merged PDF on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab clears the files.
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
Up to 20 PDFs with 300 pages in total. Each file can be up to 50 MB, and all of them together up to 150 MB. Files that don't fit are skipped, and a note tells you why.
Does merging reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied without being re-rendered or recompressed, so text stays sharp and selectable, and images keep their resolution.
Can I reorder single pages, not just whole files?
Yes. Drag a thumbnail, or focus it and use the arrow keys, Home, or End. You can also rotate or remove pages. Removing the last page of a file removes that file from the merge.
What happens when pages have different sizes?
Each page keeps its own size and orientation, so A4 and US Letter pages can share one file. Pages that are already rotated in the original stay rotated, and any rotation you add is applied on top.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
No. Encrypted PDFs, including ones that only restrict printing or editing, can't be opened, so the tool shows a note and skips them. If you know the password, remove the protection in your PDF app first, then add the file again.
Are bookmarks and form fields kept?
No. Bookmarks aren't copied, and fillable form fields may stop working. The content of each page, its text and images, stays the same.
Merging screenshot PDFs one by one?
Shotomatic captures a whole screenshot series on your Mac and exports it as one PDF, so there's nothing left to merge.
