Website Capture No Longer Requires Google Chrome
Shotomatic 1.3.3 switched website capture from a system Chrome dependency to Playwright-managed Chromium.
Shotomatic 1.3.3 removed the need for an installed copy of Google Chrome when capturing websites. The feature was called Website Crawler in this release and is now called Website Capture.
What changed
Earlier versions searched the Mac for a Chrome or Chromium executable before starting a website capture. Version 1.3.3 replaced that path with Chromium launched through Playwright.
This means Safari and Firefox users do not have to install Google Chrome just for Shotomatic. Website capture also runs separately from browser profiles and extensions.
Browser components are still required
Shotomatic still needs its Playwright browser components to run website captures. The app checks for those components and provides an installation step when they are missing. This release changed which browser Shotomatic uses; it did not remove the browser runtime itself.
Your URL lists, viewport choices, and visible-area or full-page capture settings continue to work through the same batch workflow.
See the current Website Capture workflow for setup, capture options, review, and export.
Update to Shotomatic v1.3.3 to use Website Capture without an installed copy of Google Chrome.
