Kortext Offline Reading, Notes Export, and Print Limits

Kortext supports offline reading in its Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android apps. The downloaded book stays inside Kortext. Notes export and printing are separate features, and the number of printable pages can depend on the title.

Short answer: Download the title in the Kortext app, test it offline, reconnect to sync annotations, and use Kortext's own notes and print controls for allowed outputs.

Your institution decides which books appear on the bookshelf. Publisher settings affect title-level features.

Download a Kortext book for offline reading

1. Install Kortext from the official app store for your device.
2. Sign in directly or through your institution.
3. Confirm the book appears on your bookshelf.
4. Open the title while online.
5. Accept the download prompt or use the download icon.
6. Wait until the icon indicates the title is downloaded.
7. Open the chapters you need.
8. Disable Wi-Fi, restart the app, and test them.

The offline book will not appear as a PDF in Downloads. Reopen it from the Kortext bookshelf.

Sync annotations before removing a download

Notes and highlights created offline sync when the device reconnects. Kortext recommends checking that annotations appear in the web reader before choosing Remove Download.

Use this order:

1. Reconnect on the device with the newest notes.
2. Keep Kortext open while synchronization completes.
3. Open the web reader and check a recent annotation.
4. Export or share important notes.
5. Only then remove the local book or change devices.

This avoids losing study work that never reached the account.

Export notes and references

Kortext's current student guide shows notes and highlights in the study tools. Its study-tools guide describes emailing one note or all notes from a book. The student guide also lists OneNote and Groups as sharing destinations. Reference exports can work with RefWorks or EndNote.

Notes and references are not the same export. An emailed note may contain your annotation and some source context. A reference export supplies bibliographic information for citation management.

After exporting, add any missing edition, ISBN, chapter, and page or location. Open the message or file outside Kortext before access ends.

Print only the pages the title allows

Kortext's student guide says users can print a selected number of pages per eBook through the print icon. The exact allowance can vary.

Before printing:

• open the title's print control;
• note the remaining page count;
• choose only the pages needed;
• check page numbering and preview;
• save or print through the official dialog;
• verify the result before using more allowance.

Do not use repeated screenshots or browser workarounds to exceed the limit.

Use Read Aloud on a Mac or another supported device

Kortext added built-in Read Aloud to its Mac app in December 2025. In the current Mac app, select text and choose Read aloud from the pop-up menu, or use Read aloud in the top toolbar for the whole page. The control includes narrator selection and playback controls.

The browser reader also supports external tools such as NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack, and VoiceOver. If read-aloud or another accommodation is essential, test the exact title and platform early. Contact your institution's accessibility office and Kortext support for an approved alternative when needed.

Troubleshooting

The book is missing

Confirm the institution login and email account. Kortext notes that university-provided titles may be tied to a VLE or institutional sign-in.

The download control is missing

Check that you are using the native app, not only the web reader, and that the title is eligible. Update the app and contact support with the book details.

Notes do not appear elsewhere

Reconnect the original device, keep the app open, and verify the annotation in the web reader before removing anything.

Print allowance is smaller than expected

The title's publisher controls the available amount. Ask support or your library if the listing promised a different allowance.

Keep textbook output within Kortext's controls

Use Kortext's print and notes features for textbook output. Shotomatic should not be used to recreate a Kortext book or exceed its print limits.
