Screenshot to Searchable PDF: Turn Screenshots into a PDF You Can Search
New free tool that turns screenshots into a searchable PDF on your device. Each page keeps the screenshot and adds an invisible text layer for search, selection, and copy.
We shipped a new free Screenshot to Searchable PDF tool in Shotomatic. It reads the text in your screenshots and builds a PDF where each page still shows the screenshot, with the recognized words on an invisible text layer. Cmd/Ctrl+F, text selection, and copy then work in common PDF viewers.
What's New
- Turn a set of screenshots into one searchable PDF

- Pick up to three languages under Text language when a screenshot mixes languages

Build the PDF
- Drag the cards to set the page order, and rotate any image that's sideways
- Under Page size, choose Fit (same size as image), A4, or US Letter
- Select Download searchable PDF to save the result
How Text Recognition Works
Text recognition runs in your browser with the Tesseract OCR engine, and your screenshots stay on your device. The first run downloads the engine and language data (several MB), and your browser reuses its cached copy after that.
Clear screenshots of printed text usually read well, and small screenshots are enlarged before reading. Tiny or low-contrast text, handwriting, and complex tables can still come out wrong, so check names and numbers against the image.

- Up to 80 images at a time
- Up to 20 MB per file
- Up to 260 MB total
- Up to 3 text languages per run
