Extract Text from Image: Copy Text from Screenshots and Photos in Your Browser

New free Extract Text from Image tool that reads text from screenshots and photos on your device, then lets you copy it or download it as a .txt file.

Shotomatic Extract Text from Image reading text from a screenshot

We shipped a new free Extract Text from Image tool in Shotomatic. Add a screenshot or photo, and it reads the text so you can copy it. Text recognition runs in your browser, and every file is processed on your device.

What's New

  • Read text from JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC images
  • Choose files, drop them onto the page, or paste a screenshot with Cmd+V or Ctrl+V
  • Copy the text from one image with Copy text, or from every image with Copy all text
  • Save everything as one file with Download .txt

Reading Starts Right Away

Each image is read as soon as you add it. Pick up to three languages under Text language when an image mixes languages. If an image is sideways, rotate it and the tool reads it again.

The tool uses the Tesseract OCR engine. The first run downloads the engine and language data from a public CDN, and your images are never uploaded. Clear printed text reads best, so check names and numbers against the image before you reuse them.

Limits

  • Up to 80 images at a time
  • Up to 20 MB per file
  • Up to 260 MB total
  • Up to 3 text languages

Fast Workflow
